Our home was first
built in 1500 into the walls of the old castle. It
contains many original architectural details from the
16th, 17th and 18th century: stone lintel doorways,
terracotta floors and five meter high, wooden beamed
ceilings. We have a terraced garden where guests can spend
hours relaxing while enjoying the beautiful view of the
valley through our olive grove. There are two units. One very large bedroom, with its private bath and ochre walls, is perfect for a couple. The second, a suite, is ideal for a family or group of friends on a special vacation. It consists of one separate double bedroom and two sleeping alcoves with three beds in a long gallery with an exquisite view of the Tuscan countryside. The walls are painted Pompeian red and lined with objects and antique paintings from my family; there is a large tiled bath with a sunken tub. This suite is refined and comfortable. Breakfast is served in the large
old kitchen. For a special occasion dinner can be
requested. We prepare The village of Montecarlo is small and quiet. It is still partially surrounded by the original 15th century wall and dominated by the old fortress. You can walk around safely at night and sleep without the sounds of motorcycles. There are pleasant restaurants and several cafes. Montecarlo is famous for its D.O.C. wine. It is possible to visit many nearby vineyards for winetasting and learn all about wine-making. Within a few kilometers is Lucca, with its 16th century walls and splendid villas. Pisa with its famous tower, is close by. Florence is only 50 kilometers away and is easily reachable by train. Equally important are the Alpi Apuane with their hiking and the beaches of Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi. You can take a trip to Torre del Lago (25 kilometers) and hear a performance of " La Bohème" or "Madame Butterfly" in the lakeside open air theatre close by the birthplace of Giacomo Puccini.
